2019 CCM JetSpeed FT2 Preview
In 2017, we witnessed the release of the CCM JetSpeed FT1, featuring RocketFrame composite coupled with LiteFrame 360 Tech to provide the next one-piece boot offered by CCM. 2 years later, and CCM is ready to launch its successor...the CCM JetSpeed FT2!
My initial thought of the skates were somewhat along the lines of "is this skate red?" I say that sarcastically, as I could easily spot any NHLer wearing them prior to the scheduled April 26th release date. Having said that, it is rather unfair that guys like Brock Boeser are allowed to wear them before April 26th because it only makes me want a pair of my own RIGHT NOW. These skates are fully-loaded. There's not one thing that I could've wanted that isn't launching with this skate...let's take a look!
Arguably the most important aspect of any skate is the boot.
This go-round, CCM introduced to the FT2 a new LiteFrame 360 EVO, a second-generation one-piece boot that offers a whole new fit in the heel. The original FT1 skate was a bit tight in the backside, turning a lot of players away. The FT2 skate offers an uprgraded, "locked-in" kind of fit in the heel.
Along with LiteFrame 360 EVO, CCM brought back the RocketFrame composite! RocketFrame is nothing but a HIGH-END lightweight composite used to build this pro-level skate without sacrificing any weight for comfort and protection. The FT2 skate checks in at an amazing 794 grams!
The biggest upgrade that comes with the FT2 skate is the holder. Looking to rival another skate producing manufacturer, CCM has brought a quick-change holder/blade to market with the debut of their SpeedBlade XS.
Unlike any other holder, the SpeedBlade XS uses a screw threaded through a lock-dial system to easily release the steel from the skate, while also giving you the ability to firmly lock it in place. The head of the screw is also shaped to prevent the steel from unscrewing on its own during gameplay, so no need to worry over your skate blade popping out in the middle of a shift.
The FT2 skate comes standard with SpeedBlade XS1 Black Steel. Similar to SB Black Steel, XS1 Black Steel features a carbon-oxide coating to cut the ice with less friction and provide a longer lasting sharpening as well as advanced performance. The key difference is that XS1 offers 12% more height than the original SB Black Steel, and is cut to fit the XS Holder (obviously).
The newly designed tongue features a lightweight pro felt, with a molded foam insert. This tongue offers lace-bite free comfort and extreme weight reduction!
The FT2 also includes CCM’s Orthomove footbed, a recent (AS1) release that allows players to customize the arch support to their feet simply by adjusting the depth of their arch through 3 interchangeable inserts.
The CCM JetSpeed FT2 Skates will launch on April 26th and will be available online and in-stores!
